After seeing the results of this year’s election, Miyoko Hikiji has conceded in her race for State Senate. Miyoko, a veteran and Urbandale resident who works in mental healthcare, was running against incumbent State Senator Brad Zaun, also of Urbandale.
“It’s difficult to lose an election that was so long and hard-fought, but the voters have spoken and I respect their decision. I started this campaign with the mission to improve the quality of life for Urbandale, Johnston, Grimes and Jefferson Township residents, and secure a safe and prosperous future for the next generation. That mission does not, and will not, end tonight.”
Hikiji called Senator Zaun after seeing the final results to offer her congratulations.
“I’m proud of the positive campaigns both Senator Zaun and I ran. I wish him all the best and offer him my support to elevate the issues of our community at the State Capitol.”
Hikiji will continue to serve her community in her full-time job as a Mental Health Instructor at Candeo while volunteering with several non-profit organizations that assist veterans with post-traumatic stress.
